Through Jamestown’s thoughtful stewardship, The Innovation and Design Building (IDB) has transformed from its 1918 origin as an Army storehouse into a hub of Boston’s innovation economy. Since Jamestown’s acquisition, numerous enhancements have been made to the building which help IDB businesses recruit top talent. Now housing everything from marine industrial firms and tech startups to the Boston Design Center, the team behind IDB is focused on bolstering life science lab space. Trade professionals may have tickets validated at the concierge desk on floor one, BDC West. The eight-story Innovation and Design Building (IDB) complex was constructed on the Commonwealth Flats by the U.S. Department of Defense in 1918, and it originally served as a waterside storehouse for the South Boston Army Base.
